The Real 2007 Nobel Peace Prize Winner

A Lady Named Irena

There recently was a death of a 98 year old lady named Irena Sendler. During WWII Irena got permission to work in the Warsaw Ghetto as a Plumbing/Sewer specialist. She KNEW (being German) what the Nazis' plans were for the Jews. Irena smuggled infants out in the bottom of her tool box she carried, and she carried in the back of her truck a Burlap sack (for larger kids). She also had a dog in the back that she trained to bark when the Nazi soldiers let her in and out of the ghetto. The soldiers, of course, wanted nothing to do with the dog, and the barking covered the kids/infants noises.

During her time and course of doing this she managed to smuggle out and save 2500 kids/infants. She was caught, and the Nazi's broke both her legs and arms, and beat her severely.

Irena kept in a glass jar, buried under a tree in her back yard, a record of the names of all the kids she smuggled out. After the war she tried to locate any parents that may have survived and reunite the families. Most, of course, had been gassed. Those kids she helped got placed into foster family homes or were adopted.

Last year Irena was nominated* for the Nobel Peace Prize....

She LOST.

Al Gore won - for doing a bogus slide show on Global Warming.
This is an email going around; I got it the other day from my Yank mate, Don, down in the South Island, and I only cleaned up some grammar and added the lady's last name. It is verified at Snopes.

*The only thing that cannot be verified is whether or not she was actually nominated or considered for nomination as apparently information about Nobel nominations are kept secret for 50 years. Regardless, it seems to me that she surely embodied what the Peace Prize is supposed to be about, and there is certainly something wrong with the folks at Nobel when they award it to a huckster, hypocrite, fraud, and charlatan like Al Gore.

The main thing is how does producing a movie with conflicting sources of fact qualify anyone for a Nobel Peace Prize?

Gore winning the Prize only proves its become as bogus as carbon credits.

Don't pick on 'a current' winner-this woman may deserve a NOBEL...but why didn't she get one years ago?

Better question is, "Why did Gore get one at all?"

And why not pick on him, OCM? Regardless of whether or not you think that he has brought attention to what you think might be a worthy humanitarian cause, do you honestly think he - Al Gore, the person - meets the criteria? In addition to some the dubious "facts" that he presented in his "documentary" as Bob already pointed out, what has he sacrificed personally? Nothing. Furthermore, Gore stands to make a buttload of money from these proposed carbon trading scams because he owns or has significant interest in various companies that will broker these deals. He still flies around the world in a private jet (leaving, as he would say about anybody else, a HUGE carbon footprint) for paid appearances where he invites no debate (preaches to the choir), and his house still runs up a monthly power bill of $20,000. He doesn't lead by example; just another "do as I say, not as I do" elitist. Fuck him. If he walked the walk and just not talked the talk, I would have more respect for him even if I did not agree with him.

This woman made huge personal sacrifices at great personal risk for which she paid the price. I guess the reason she was not put-up for nomination earlier is that she just passed away 2 months ago, so it was other people who put her name up there posthumously. Like most people who do things with no ulterior motives, she was probably too humble to nominate herself. If it came down to a choice between Ms. Sendler and Owl Gore, the choice would seem pretty clear to me. That's all I was saying.
