Welfare Is For The Birds

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: With very few exceptions - like being seriously physically or mentally handicapped - public welfare should be abolished. Like all forms of socialism, it is degrading to the concept of free-will and to the human spirit in general. It encourages laziness and discourages people from taking responsibility for their actions and their own well-being. It rewards the least productive members of a society and forces without choice the productive ones to pick-up their slack. So here's a bedtime story for your children...or for liberals who need a good smack upside their thick skulls with the good ol' clue bat.
I bought a bird feeder.

I hung it on my back porch and filled it with seed.

Within a week we had hundreds of birds taking advantage of the continuous flow of free and easily accessible food.

But then the birds started building nests in the boards of the patio, above the table, and next to the barbecue.

Then came the poop. It was everywhere - on the patio tile, the chairs, the table - everywhere.

Then some of the birds turned mean: They would dive bomb me and try to peck me, even though I had fed them out of my own pocket.

And others birds were boisterous and loud: They sat on the feeder and squawked and screamed at all hours of the day and night and demanded that I fill it when it got low on food.

After a while I couldn't even sit on my own back porch anymore.

I took down the bird feeder, and in three days the birds were gone.

I cleaned up their mess and took down the many nests they had built all over the patio.

Soon the back yard was like it used to be... quiet, serene, and no one demanding their rights to a free meal.

Here's an interesting point to the other side of this story. I'm visiting my parents in New York and they feed the birds in their yard everyday, religiously. They've come to believe the birds cannot survive without the food they provide them on a daily basis. In a sense they've become big brother to these birds. Just like in typical welfare, the Democrats believe the welfare recipients cannot survive without their government assistance.

OCM, I believe I addressed your concerns in the very first sentence of my post:

With very few exceptions - like being seriously physically or mentally handicapped

Other than that I can't think of really any reason for people to receive gifts from the fruits of MY labor without my permission. Certainly not those who "just can't seem to get out of bed and face another day..." Fuck 'em.

Human gonocide? Is there any other kind of genocide? LOL!! I mean, people lived for thousands of years without welfare. Those who can't, besides the exceptions I already noted, are simply to be weeded out; cleaning the gene pool.

Excellent point Joe. For thousands of years, mankind has lived without government welfare, health care, and housing. Now, in the past 70 years, mankind has come to believe it cannot survive without government assistance. And, by government assistance I mean, "the fruits of the labors of others".

But then, if welfare went away, how would certain politicians "buy" their votes?

Oh, come on now, OCM; you're really reaching here. Beggars? A few differences to point out here. First and foremost, one had a choice as to whether or not one wanted to help them...or kick them in the teeth, or let them rot. There was no government sponsored program of legalized theft of money out of my pocket. No government or individual has the right to determine for me whom I should or should not show compassion. That is my choice, and I am entitled to be a heartless prick if I so desire. I owe nobody anything, and I expect nothing from anybody either. If a person cannot make it in the US or in any other civilzed country in this day and age of relative ease of living, then they need to go the way of the dinosaur. It's called natural selection. It shits me no end to know that while I'm working to pay my own way and that of my family through this thing called life that there are people getting drunk and high using money they stole from the fruits of my labor. In what universe is that rational?

I'll tell you what. Have the government set-up a voluntary program of "adopt a homeless person" and see just how many bleeding hearts who are in favor of public welfare actually choose to step up and do something at their own expense. I submit the line would be pretty fucking short.
